Welcome to Rookhope
Described by WH Auden as "the most wonderfully desolate of all the dales" Rookhope in Weardale is an ideal base for exploring the North Pennines. It is also a convenient accommodation stop on the popular Coast to Coast (C2C) cycle route from Whitehaven to Sunderland, being at the bottom of the long descent from Allenheads and before the start of the next big climb.
The area offers some spectacular countryside far from the crowds, fishing for rainbow and wild brown trout, some fascinating examples of industrial archaelogy, quiet lanes and cycle tracks and some rather pleasant pubs.
Princess Cottage offers comfortable accommodation for up to 5 people. Guests have the option of self-catering or eating at the Rookhope Inn which is just 200 metres away. Enjoy all the atmosphere of the Inn but with the option of a peaceful early night!Secure cycle storage is available to our Coast to Coast (C2C) guests.
Dogs are welcome.
The tariff is £25 per person per night. Breakfast is available by arrangement at the nearby Inn for £5 per person, alternatively, breakfast ingredients can be supplied in advance for those wishing to self-cater - please ask when booking.
Discounts are available for longer stays.
